I saw a post online this morning about a mom who left her elf in a fruit basket the entire month of December. That’s fine moms, there is no shame.
Just tell the kids he/she got stuck and they will still laugh hysterically every morning when they wake up.
On the other side of this Elf on the Shelf commitment are the moms that really go all out. They have so much fun crafting scenes that will knock Pinterest socks off.
Battling elves with GI Joe, handcrafted outfits and more. If you have the time, god bless you!
Well my strategy always lies on the side of low effort, high reward.
Shame me if you want, but I LOVE these hilarious, easy elf on the shelf ideas.
Pin this post because next year, you will wish you did…

1 – EATING A MARSHMALLOW
It can be a roll, a marshmallow or a piece of candy. HECK… do all three on different days. I usually forget to move her until morning, so whatever we have around in am sounds like the perfect snack. The little bite not only tastes good, it proves the realness of your Elf.
2 – HELP… I AM TRAPPED IN A MASON JAR AND I CAN’T GET UP
Nothing is funnier to a toddler than an elf stuck in a jar. I have exactly 4 jars and I am quite sure, Beauty (our elf) will find her way into each one before Christmas. Sometimes she will be trapped and sometimes she will be escaping.
3 – EVERYONE LOVES A HUG
What do you have around that is entirely huggable? Ours is a singing hamster.
My girls love hugs. Need I say more?
4 – OUT ON THE TOWN
Looking around I see lots of things our elf, Beauty, can ride into an adventure. These golden Flamingos embrace the the day, and the kids can’t stop laughing. As far as simple ideas go, sitting atop home decor is ALMOST as simple as leaving your Elf where she is in the fruit bowl.
5 – ZIPLINE TO THE NORTH POLE
Gotta get some upside Elf of the Shelf because it’s easy and the kids like it. I just tied the chain lightly around the hands. Think upside down in the tree or hanging off a shelf as well.
I like my Elf to deliver the advent calendars, and that usually involves her being upside down as well.
6 – OPEN THE DRAWER, SURPRISE!
Going to get a fork, bam! There she is just waiting to be found. Tempting to touch her, but I’m not convinced she will loose her magic with just one touch. This girl is pretty resilient.
7 – GET CRAFTY FOR SANTA
This is the most ambitious of the ideas here, but it still only took me one minute. Probably because I already had sitting out some craft paper and pens. Leave extra sheets nearby for impromptu coloring.
Yes, of course you can write a note or draw a huge scene, but there is not shame in keeping it simple either.
8 – THE ELF DOOR IS OPEN
Lastly, I had to give a nod out to this simple idea I found on PopSugar. It was just TOO CUTE not to share. If you have a fairy door, get the pin here. But any little miniatures make a fun set up.
